No. 16 Tennessee Sweeps Elon

Knoxville, Tenn. - The Elon University men's tennis team faced a challenging match against the 16th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers Saturday at Barksdale Stadium. The Phoenix were unable to secure a victory, falling 4-0 to the Volunteers. Tennessee improved to 6-2 with the win and Elon drops to 0-2.

Doubles Play:
In the doubles competition, Tennessee clinched the point by winning the first two matches:
  • No. 1 Doubles: Elon's duo of Veljko Krstic and Rafael Ymer were defeated by Tennessee's Alex Kotzen and Alejandro Moreno with a score of 6-1.
  • No. 2 Doubles: The pairing of Oskar Antinheimo and Jack Curtis fell to Alan Jesudason and Shunsuke Mitsui, 6-3.
The No. 3 doubles match featuring Charles Pilet and Alonso Roca was left unfinished, with the Elon pair leading 5-3 when play was halted.

Singles Play:
Tennessee continued their strong performance in singles, securing victories in the following matches to clinch the overall win:
  • No. 1 Singles: Veljko Krstic was bested by Shunsuke Mitsui, 6-3, 6-3.
  • No. 2 Singles: Rafael Ymer lost to Alex Kotzen, 6-3, 6-0.
  • No. 6 Singles: Alonso Roca was defeated by Ian Cruz, 6-1, 6-0.
The matches at No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 singles were unfinished at the time the Volunteers clinched the victory.

Despite the setback, the Phoenix displayed moments of competitive play, particularly in the unfinished doubles match at the No. 3 position. The team will look to build on these experiences as they continue their season.

Next up, Elon is set to face Penn in a neutral-site match Sunday in Knoxville.
