Women’s Basketball Falls In Close Battle With Towson Thursday Night

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Elon women's basketball team (15-15, 9-10 CAA) fell in a close matchup to the Towson Tigers (12-19, 9-10 CAA) 53-47 on Thursday night in the second round of the 2025 Credit Union 1 CAA Women's Basketball Championship.

THE RUNDOWN
  • Towson jumped out to an early 5-2 lead before baskets from Maraja Pass and Iycez Adams gave Elon a 6-5 advantage. The teams traded baskets, and with the score tied at 9-9, the Tigers closed the quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 14-9 lead after the first.
  • Raven Preston opened the second quarter with a three-pointer, sparking a back-and-forth battle. With Towson leading 16-14, the Tigers responded with a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 23-14 with 6:03 remaining in the quarter. The teams traded baskets before a 9-2 run by the Phoenix—capped by another Preston three-pointer—brought Elon within two at 27-25 with 1:17 left in the half. A steal by Regina Walton and a layup from Laila Anderson with 28 seconds remaining tied the game at 27-27 heading into halftime.
  • Back-to-back early buckets from Maraja Pass and Raven Preston put Elon ahead 31-27. Towson quickly tied the score at 31-31 before the teams traded baskets, with the Tigers closing the third quarter up 36-33.
  • A 6-1 run from Towson extended its lead to 42-34 with 8:13 left in the game. A three-pointer from Laila Anderson cut the deficit to five at 42-37 before the teams exchanged scores. Trailing 46-39, Elon responded with six straight free throws to pull within one at 46-45 with 2:42 remaining. Preston then converted a layup to give Elon a 47-46 lead, but Towson answered with two free throws to reclaim a 48-47 advantage. From there, the Phoenix struggled to convert offensively, ultimately falling to the Tigers 53-47.

  • Iycez Adams, Kamryn Doty, Ava Leroux, Maraja Pass, and Raven Preston started for the Phoenix.
  • Preston recorded her ninth double-double of the season, leading the team with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Adams also grabbed double-digit rebounds with 10 while adding five points and a steal.
  • Pass led the team with three assists and a game-high four steals.
  • Laila Anderson surpassed 1,000 career points, finishing the night with five points.
