Granatell Collects 200th Hit In Friday Loss To Charleston

Elon, N.C.- Elon (8-13) senior Charlie Granatell continued to be a bright spot in the Phoenix lineup as he collected the 200th hit of his Elon career in the Friday night loss to the College of Charleston (13-7).

Six different Phoenix collected a hit with Vince Fattore securing the lone multi-hit game for the Phoenix. Ryan Sprock and Will Vergantino both drove in a run in the loss.

How It Happened
  • The Phoenix and Cougars traded blows early. Despite putting two men on in the first, the Phoenix could not bring a run across in the top of the frame. While Charleston brought in one run in the bottom of the inning.
  • Elon responded with a clean frame from Justin Mitrovich and two runs in the third. Back-to-back singles from Jackson Alford and Alex Duffey put runners on the corners with no one out. Alford would score on a sacrifice fly from Sprock before Vergantino scored Duffey on an RBI single.
  • The Cougars would counter with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.
  • Charleston continued to bring home runs with nine runs between the fifth and eighth innings to take game one of the weekend series, 12-2.
