Rising Phoenix: This Week In Elon Athletics

ELON, N.C. –  Conference play is heating up in Elon athletics, with plenty of chances for fans to catch the action this week.

After a successful Senior Day, the Elon University lacrosse team will face Delaware on Friday, April 1 at 1 p.m. The Phoenix, currently 2-0 in CAA play, will look to get its eight straight regular season conference victory dating back to last season.

Each Monday, Rising Phoenix will preview the week ahead in Elon athletics. Here is a look at each Elon team competing this week.

Men's Golf
The Elon University men's golf team is headed to Carrollton, Texas to compete in the Maridoe Intercollegiate, which takes place on Monday, March 31 and Tuesday, April 1. The Phoenix finished seventh overall in the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, led by senior Matthew Doyle, who finished tied for ninth individually with 8-under par. 

Women's Golf
After finishing 13th in the City of Oaks Collegiate in Raleigh, the Elon University women's golf team is competing once again in its home state. The team will play in Greenville, North Carolina, in the Ironwood Invitational hosted by ECU on Monday, March 31 and Tuesday, April 1. 

Women's Tennis
With a 1-0 record in conference, the Elon University women's tennis team is set to host its conference home opener on Wednesday, April 2 at 2 p.m. against North Carolina A&T. This match starts a streak of five home matches that will close out the 2025 regular season for the Phoenix before hosting the CAA tournament. On Saturday, April 5, Elon will face College of Charleston at 10 a.m.
 
Baseball
The Elon University baseball team will play its midweek game on Wednesday, April 2 at 6 p.m. in Greenville, North Carolina at ECU. Over the weekend, the team will travel to Williamsburg, Virginia to face William & Mary in a three-game series. Last weekend, against Delaware, junior Justin Mitrovich earned his third win of the season, matching a season-high eight strikeouts in 6.1 innings. In that same game, junior Jackson Alford went 3-5 with two home runs and three RBI. 

Track & Field
At the Raleigh Relays this past weekend, senior Madison Synowiec ran a personal-best of 33:51.52 in the 10,000, which ranks second best in program history. Graduate student Mariana Martinez and sophomore Hannah Weber also ran the 10,000, with times that rank seventh and eighth, respectively. The Phoenix will travel to High Point to compete in the VertKlasse Meeting on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5. 

Lacrosse
To celebrate the team's annual Senior Day, the Elon University lacrosse team took home a 13-10 win over Campbell, which marked its seventh straight regular season conference victory. Sophomore MJ Santa Barbara also broke Elon's all-time draw control record of 195 in only her 21st game with the Phoenix. Eight different players scored goals for Elon, with redshirt sophomore Ana Lee Vandiver and freshman Lillian Austin leading the way with hat tricks. Elon will travel to Delaware to face the Blue Hens on Friday, April 1 at 1 p.m.

Softball
Last week, the Elon University softball team delivered an 8-7 win over ECU in walk-off fashion, powered by redshirt junior Gabi Schaal's two-run home run. The Phoenix also earned a 5-4 victory over Delaware delivered by a pinch-hit RBI single off the bat of freshman Kayla Wilson. The Phoenix will be back on Hunt Softball Park this weekend for a three-game series against the College of Charleston. 

Men's Tennis
The Elon University men's tennis team is on a four-match winning streak and earned its second conference victory of the season last week in a 5-2 win over William & Mary. The Phoenix lost the doubles point but rattled off five consecutive singles wins to mount the comeback over the Tribe. Elon will host Presbyterian on Sunday, April 6 at 1 p.m.
