Wofford Picks Up 4-3 Win Over Elon

Spartanburg, S.C. - The Elon University women's tennis team made a solid effort on Friday but ultimately fell 4-3 to Wofford at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Phoenix remained competitive throughout the match, never allowing the Terriers to get too comfortable. 

The Phoenix nearly secured the doubles point, with No. 2 duo of Simone Bergeron and Mariana Reding winning 6-4 against Wofford's Grace Agster and Catherine Blouin. On court three, freshman duo Lisa Kranec and Heidi Bulger finished first, losing 6-2 to Chloe Elliott and Brianna Wilbur. Finishing third, at court one, Miray Konar and Helen Sarikulaya were almost able to secure the doubles point for Elon but ultimately lost 7-6 to Breda Brennan and Lily Woods. 

In singles play, the Phoenix stayed competitive, winning three of the six singles matches. Finishing first, at court 4, Heidi Bulger was defeated by Catherine Blouin 6-1, 6-1. Finishing second, Lisa Kranec kept her singles record strong as she faced Chloe Elliott, winning 6-1, 6-3. At court two, finishing third was Helen Sarikulaya with a loss to Brianna Wilbur, 6-3, 6-3. Finishing fourth, junior Madison Cordisco faced Grace Agster who defeated her 6-1 after Cordisco won the second set 6-0. Finishing fifth was Simone Bergeron, who secured Elon's second singles win after defeating Breda Brennan 7-6, 6-4. Finishing last, to give the Phoenix their third win, Mariana Reding won against Lily Woods winning the second and third set, 6-4, 7-6 after Woods won the first set 6-4. 

After this loss, the Phoenix are 8-4 on the season, moving Wofford up to 8-1. 

Up next: The Phoenix stay on the road, heading to Boiling Springs N.C. to play Gardner-Webb on Saturday at 11 a.m.
