No. 2 Elon Defeats No. 3 Monmouth To Advance To CAA Championship

Box Score Elon, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team is headed back to the CAA Championship final for a rematch against UNCW, the same opponent from last year's title match. The Phoenix secured their spot with a 4-1 win over No. 3 Monmouth, while UNCW advanced with a victory over No. 4 Delaware and will be aiming for their fifth consecutive CAA Championship.

Doubles: 
In doubles play, the Phoenix secured the point with dominant showings on courts two and three.

Juan Sengariz and Charles Pilet set the tone for the Phoenix with a 6-2 win against Alex Martinez Sanz and Diego Laporta. At No. 2, Rafael Ymer and Jack Curtis battled to a 6-4 win over Monmouth's Adam Hillerby and Jakob Bonnett, clinching the doubles point. 


At the No. 1 spot, Veljko Krstic and Oskar Antinheimo trailed 5-6 in an unfinished match against Mateo Bivol and Louis Keller.


Singles:
The Phoenix continued their strong performance with a 6-3, 6-2 straight-sets win by Charles Pilet, securing the first singles point. At No. 1, Veljko Krstic defeated Monmouth's Mateo Bivol 6-1, 6-4, putting Elon one singles win away from clinching the match.

The Hawks earned a singles win on court two, with Rafael Ymer falling 7-5, 6-4 to Louis Keller.

After dropping the first set 6-2, Jack Curtis sparked a dominant comeback, winning the next two sets 6-4, 6-1 to clinch the 4-1 victory and a spot in the CAA Championship match.

Up next: The Phoenix will face four-time defending champions UNCW on Sunday at 2 p.m. at JPTC. The Seahawks earned a 4-0 victory over No. 3 Delaware in the semifinals.
