Men’s Tennis Falls To UNCW in CAA Championship Match

Box Score Elon, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team battled hard but ultimately fell 4-2 to the No. 1-seeded and nationally ranked UNCW in the 2025 CAA Championship match on Sunday.

The Phoenix completes its season with an 11-8 record. This was Elon's fourth straight appearance in the CAA title match. UNCW, who entered the match ranked No. 69 in the ITA rankings, improved to 12-7 with the victory. This was the fifth straight CAA championship for the Seahawks, who will continue their season as the conference's automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament. 

Doubles: 
The Seahawks secured the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3. UNCW earned a 6-1 win on Court No. 1, while the Phoenix worked to rally from a 5-1 deficit on Court No. 3. Elon won two straight games to extend the match but ultimately fell 6-3. On Court No. 2, the Phoenix duo of Rafael Ymer and Jack Curtis held a 5-4 lead over UNCW's Trey Mallory and Alex DeGabrielle when the match was left unfinished.

Singles:
At No. 4, Jack Curtis secured the Phoenix's first singles point with a commanding 6-2, 6-3 win over Trey Mallory. UNCW responded by regaining the lead on Court 5, as Lukas Steffen defeated Charles Pilet 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.

At No. 6, Elon's lone senior, Juan Sengariz, earned the final singles win of his collegiate career, rallying for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Jordi Domenech to tie the match at 2-2.

At No. 2, UNCW's Sam Nicholson reclaimed the lead for the Seahawks with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) win over Rafael Ymer. Court 3 then clinched the championship for UNCW, as Oskar Antinheimo fell 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to Joe Wayand.

At No. 1, Veljko Krstic battled through a close first set, ultimately dropping a 7-6 (7-1) tiebreak. Krstic continued to fight in the second set, which was left unfinished.
