ELON, N.C. – The Elon University softball team defeated College of Charleston, 6-0, on Saturday, April 5, in game two of its CAA series at Hunt Softball Park.
The Phoenix improves to 19-14 on the season and 11-3 in the CAA with its fourth league series win of the year. Charleston falls to 18-21 with a 9-5 ledger versus league opponents.
At the Plate
• The Phoenix had nine hits in the game with the bottom half of its lineup leading the charge.
Chloe Hatzopoulos,
Mary Moss Wirt and
Reagan Hartley all had two hits for Elon, with Hatzopoulos also legging out a double.

Kaitlyn Wells drove in two RBI to lead the Phoenix while
Greta Hessenthaler went 1-of-3 at the dish to extend her reach base streak to 32 games.
In the Circle
•
McKenna McCard (7-3) went the distance for the Phoenix in the circle, allowing three hits in her first shutout of the season. She also struck out three batters.
The Rundown
• The Phoenix got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second aided by a pair of Charleston errors. Hatzopoulos reached on a one-out single and then advanced to second after a single from Wirt. Hatzopoulos scored off an error from a Hartley bunt with Wirt and Hartley moving into scoring position on the play.
• Elon scored two more runs in the second on another error. The Cougars committed its second error in the inning on a
Lani Wyrick sac bunt, enabling Wirt and Hartley to score on the play and give the Phoenix a 3-0 lead.
• The maroon and gold was in position to add more runs to its lead in the bottom of the fourth. Elon had two runners on with one out after Wirt reached on another error. Wirt then stole second to give the Phoenix runners into scoring position, but Elon lined out into a double play to end the inning.
• Three more runs came in for the Phoenix in the bottom of the sixth. Hatzopoulos doubled to lead off the inning and then scored off a fielding error to put the maroon and gold up 4-0. Wells then drove in two more runs to the plate on an RBI single to left center to give the Phoenix a 6-0 cushion that would set as the final score.

• Series finale between the Phoenix and the Cougars is set for its new time of 12 p.m. tomorrow, April 6. The game will stream on FloCollege (FloSoftball).
