BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Elon University softball team fell to Campbell, 3-1, in the second game of its CAA series on Friday afternoon, May 2, at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
The loss for the Phoenix (28-18, 20-6 CAA) forces a rubber match tomorrow versus the Camels (34-17, 19-7 CAA).
At the Plate
• The Phoenix was held to five hits in the game with
Gabi Schaal accounting for two of those as the fifth year went 2-of-4 at the dish. She also drove in an RBI and added a double to her stat line. As a team, Elon left 11 runners on base.
In the Circle

Anna Dew was handed the loss to fall to 2-6 overall on the season. The sophomore set a new career-high with seven strikeouts in the complete-game effort as she allowed three runs.
The Rundown
• The Camels added the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. Campbell had a runner reach on a double with one out before she scored on a two-out single to left to tack on the first run of the ball game.
• The Phoenix had a chance to join the Camels on the scoreboard in the top of the third.
Reagan Hartley reached on a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sac bunt to put the tying run into scoring position. Another walk gave Elon two runners on with one out, but the next two batters were retired on a strikeout and a fly out.
• Elon again had another opportunity to scratch across some runs in the top of the fourth. The Phoenix saw its first two batters reach on a single and a walk before the bases were loaded on a one-out single. The bags were left full as the Camels finagled out of the inning with a strikeout and a foul out.
• Campbell added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth. A pair of two-out RBI singles increased the Camels' advantage to 3-0.
• Elon was able to push across a run in the top of the fifth.
Kaitlyn Wells reached on a two-out walk before scoring on a Schaal bloop double into right field, cutting the Phoenix's deficit to 3-1.
• The Phoenix had a chance to tie or take the lead after loading the bases again in the top of the seventh.

Kaitlyn Wells joined her on the bases with one out on a walk. Elon kept its hopes alive after
Chloe Hatzopoulos drew a free pass to give the Phoenix ducks on the pond, but Campbell struck out the final batter to end Elon's rally hopes.

• The rubber match between the two teams will begin tomorrow, May 3, with a noon start time.
