ELON – The Elon women's cross country team opened its 2025 season in dominant fashion Friday night by capturing the team title at the Elon Opener behind five top-10 individual finishes, including
Abby Beville's personal-best time of 13:36.6.
Beville, a junior, won the individual title and bested second-place finisher Abrielle Schweitzer (13:44.0) of East Carolina by more than seven seconds. The Phoenix dotted the rest of the top 10 with
Hannah Weber (13:48.1) and
Sarah Petitjean (13:53.1) taking third and fourth while
Quinn Smith (14:09.3),
Amelia Summers (14:10.2) and
Madi Galindo (14:10.6) rounded out eighth through 10th place.
The Elon women finished with 27 points while Davidson (72), East Carolina (102), Coastal Carolina (115) and High Point (145) rounded out the top five squads.
Caden Strickland clocked 18:47.2 to take 13th individually and lead Elon to a sixth-place finish in the men's 6K. Strickland, a senior, was the Phoenix's top finisher in the Elon Opener last year as well. Freshmen
Luke Chisum (18:56.1) and
Max Bixler (19:19.0) placed 18th and 26th, respectively, in their collegiate debuts to round out the Elon men's top three finishers.
