Elon’s Unbeaten Start Ends At Longwood

Phoenix Drops 1-0 Decision In Farmville

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Elon University men's soccer team (5-1-2) saw its unbeaten start come to an end Tuesday night, as the Phoenix fell 1-0 at Longwood (2-4-2).

The Lancers scored the game's only goal in the 32nd minute. Longwood played the final 18:10 of the contest down a man after earning a red card but held off a furious Phoenix attack to secure a shutout victory.

How It Happened
  • Elon created the first four shots of the contest, including an effort in the 15th minute from Dominik Renz that rang off the crossbar. Martin Kozak and Jordin Wilson also put shots on goal during that opening stretch.
  • Jackson Leavitt made his first stop of the night in goal in the 31st minute. However, shortly after, Longwood's Brando Bedolla capitalized on an Elon turnover to score the game's first tally and take a 1-0 lead.
  • Starting the second half up 1-0, Longwood took the first shot of the period before Elon took the next three. The Lancers attempted their final shot of the match in the 55th minute.
  • Bedolla was shown a red card in the 72nd minute, forcing the Lancers to finish the contest with 10 players.
  • Elon pressured Longwood in the final 18 minutes, taking 10 shots to close the contest. However, the Lancers held on for the shutout victory.
