Phoenix Extends Shutout Streak To Five Against NC State

Elon Matches Longest Shutout Streak Since 1995

ELON – With a 0-0 draw Thursday night against NC State (0-5-2) at Rudd Field, the Elon University women's soccer team (4-0-2) continued its unbeaten start and extended its streak of consecutive clean sheets to five.

Reigning CAA Defensive Player of the Week Katie Bisgrove earned her fifth straight shutout in goal for the Phoenix, stopping all six Wolfpack shots on goal. The draw is Elon's first result in 17 all-time matches against NC State.

Elon has not conceded a goal in the last 463:28 of game time, a stretch that began in the second half at VCU on Aug. 14. It has been nearly eight hours of game action since the Phoenix surrendered its only goal of the campaign.

The five consecutive shutouts are the most in for the Phoenix since also recording five straight in 1995. Elon is currently on its longest shutout streak as a Division I program.

How It Happened
  • Elon weathered early NC State chances, with four Wolfpack shots missing the target in the opening 22 minutes of the contest.
  • Isa Murdock registered Elon's first shot of the night in the 24th minute and took another in the 35th minute. They were Elon's lone attempts in the opening period.
  • Bisgrove made her first saves of the night on Jade Bordeleau shots in the 27th and 29th minutes, respectively. She made another on Erica Roberts in the 39th minute for her third stop in a scoreless first half.
  • Murdock delivered Elon's first shot on target of the game in the 65th minute, forcing NC State goalie Olivia Pratapas to make her first save of the night.
  • In the 67th minute, Bisgrove made a pair of key saves on shots from Mana Nakata shots to keep the Wolfpack off the board.
  • Bisgrove made another clutch denial in the 76th minute by lunging to stop a low attempt from Mary Frances Symmes. It was her sixth and final stop of the contest.
  • Elon created its best scoring opportunity of the night in the 80th minute, as freshman Miranda Dumornay took a shot in the box that Pratapas got a piece of to keep the Phoenix scoreless.
  • Bordeleau took the game's final shot in the 89th minute, as the contest ended in a scoreless draw.

Notes & Numbers
  • Bisgrove tallied six saves in her shutout. The sophomore has 13 saves in her last two clean sheets and has six-plus saves on three occasions this season.
  • Bisgrove's five consecutive clean sheets are the most by an Elon goalie in the program's Division I era. She now has 10.5 career shutouts and stands No. 10 all-time among Elon goalies in career clean sheets through her first 22 appearances.
  • Six Elon position players logged the full 90 minutes – Ashlee Brehio, Grace Gelhaus, Murdock, Ava Hellner, Jessica Hill and Alexis Pierce.
  • Murdock attempted three of Elon's six shots on the night. Dumornay, Hellner and Megan Dwyer all took one.
  • NC State outshout the Phoenix, 20-6, but only held a slight 6-2 edge in shots on goal.

  • The Phoenix is still yet to trail through 540 minutes of game time this season.
  • With the shutout, the Phoenix moves within one of its longest ever streak of consecutive clean sheets (6), which was set in 1986, Elon's inaugural season as a program.
