RICHMOND, Va. – The Elon men's tennis team swept the first CAA weekly awards of the season Tuesday, with
Rafael Ymer being tabbed as the Player of the Week and
Veljko Krstic and
Nikola Parichkov earning Doubles Team of the Week.
Ymer took down No. 11 Texas A&M's Alexander Frusina, currently ranked No. 73 by the ITA in singles, at the No. 2 position on Jan. 21. The sophomore broke Frusina's serve in the ninth game of the opening set to go ahead 5-4 before serving out the frame in the ensuing game. He followed that up with another 6-4 victory in the second set to secure Elon's first ranked singles triumph of the spring.
Ymer is 2-1 in singles on the season, with both victories coming in neutral-site matches at the Wake Forest Tennis Center. Both wins have also come at the No. 2 position. This is Ymer's second CAA Player of the Week honor after previously winning the award on March 11, 2025.
Krstic and Parichkov are 1-1 on the season at the No. 1 spot, highlighted by a 6-4 victory on Jan. 10 against the Saint Joseph's duo of Othman Bezzaz and Ernesto Ruy, who entered the spring No. 70 in the ITA doubles rankings. Krstic and Parichkov broke serve at 4-4 before Parichkov served out the victory in the 10th game to clinch the doubles point for Elon. The Phoenix duo also led 4-3 at the No. 1 spot against No. 11 Texas A&M when their match was halted.
The weekly honor is the first of Parichkov's career in his debut campaign with the Phoenix. This is Krstic's second time being part of a CAA Doubles Team of the Week but the first since March 28, 2023, when he earned the honor as a freshman alongside
Oskar Antinheimo.
This is Elon's first time sweeping the CAA's weekly men's tennis awards since Feb. 17, 2021. Kyle Frankel took home Player of the Week with Akram El Sallaly and Chung-Han Tsai earning Doubles Team of the Week.
The Phoenix is currently 1-2 this season following back-to-back matches against top-20 opponents. Elon's next scheduled match is Feb. 6 against UNC Asheville.
