RICHMOND, Va. – Elon freshman running back
Kamerin McDowell-Moore was named the CAA Offensive Player of the Week on Monday following a record-setting performance in Elon's 30-23 loss at New Hampshire.
McDowell-Moore rushed for a career-high 273 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries, averaging 9.4 yards per rush. His 273 rushing yards were the fourth-most in a single game in Elon history and the most ever by an Elon freshman. It also marked his third game this season with two rushing touchdowns.
The Tarboro native scored Elon's first touchdown of the afternoon on a 5-yard run in the second quarter, cutting New Hampshire's lead to 13-10. He found the end zone again in the third quarter, breaking free for a 40-yard touchdown run to pull the Phoenix within six at 23-17.
McDowell-Moore's 273 rushing yards are the most by a freshman at any level of college football this season and the second-most by an FCS player in a game this season.
It is McDowell-Moore's third CAA weekly honor of the season. He was named CAA Rookie of the Week after rushing for 88 yards and two touchdowns in Elon's 38-0 victory at Davidson and earned CAA Co-Offensive Rookie of the Week honors following a 126-yard, two-touchdown performance in a 43-17 win over Maine.
McDowell-Moore and the Phoenix return to Rhodes Stadium Saturday for Elon's Homecoming game against Wofford. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
