CHARLESTON – For the second time this season, the Elon men's soccer team (8-2-3, 2-1-3 CAA) tied College of Charleston (7-2-3, 2-2-1 CAA) on Friday night as the Phoenix and Cougars played to a 1-1 decision at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point.
Dominik Renz scored Elon's goal in the 16th minute, finding the twine shortly after another Phoenix goal was taken off the board. The Cougars responded in the second half with an equalizing tally in the 61st minute.
Elon picked up another point in the CAA South Division standings with the result and remains one point clear of the Cougars for second place.

How It Happened
- Charleston had an early scoring chance in the eighth minute with Ben Baldwin narrowly missing the net after receiving a cross into the box.
- In the 16th minute, Weston Jonke appeared to put the Phoenix up 1-0 but the goal was negated upon video review for offsides.
- Shortly after Elon's goal was called back, the Phoenix found the back of the net again for a goal that counted. Caleb Frakes played a ball down the right sideline that sprung Oscar Tonidandel, who passed the ball to the center of the box to a sliding Renz. The Phoenix forward got his foot on the ball and beat Charleston's goalkeeper Marten Brink with a shot to make it 1-0 for Elon.
- Drew Hartman made a pair of saves after the Phoenix took the lead, denying Ryan Watson and Henrik Boer. He made another stop in the 41st minute to preserve Elon's one-goal lead entering halftime. Â
- Charleston scored a tying goal in the 61st minute with Arnau Ollie beating Hartman off a feed from Boer.
- Brink made the save of the night in the 67th minute, leaping into the air to punch away a shot attempt from Martin Kozak.
- Hartman made a pair of saves in the 73rd and 76th minutes, respectively.
- Renz put the game's final shot attempt on goal in the 86th minute but it was stopped by Brink.
- Elon had a free kick opportunity in the final 30 seconds of the contest, but the Cougars cleared the ball out of harm's way to secure the tie.

Notable Numbers
- Renz has now scored in three of his four career matches against the Cougars. Both of Elon's goals against Charleston this season have been scored by Renz off primary assists from Tonidandel.
- Four of Renz's eight goals this season have come this week as the forward is coming off a hat trick Tuesday against Guilford. He leads the conference in both points (19) and goals (8).
- Tonidandel's assist was his eighth of the campaign, giving him the solo lead in the conference for helpers. The midfielder has assists in three straight matches.
- Frakes notched his third assist on the season, the second to come in CAA play. The defender went the full 90 minutes for the second time on the campaign.
- Joining Frakes in playing the full 90 minutes was Tønnes Daland, Magnus Jacobsen and Daire McCarthy.
- Charleston finished with a slight 15-13 advantage in shots but outshot the Phoenix 9-5 in the second half.
- Two-time reigning CAA Defensive Player of the Week Joe Taylor paced Elon with three shot attempts. Renz, Tonidandel and Jordin Wilson each took two shots.
- Hartman made a season-high five saves in his sixth straight CAA start. Â
- Elon extended its unbeaten streak to nine straight matches with the result. The Phoenix has not lost since Sept. 5 at UNCW.
- The tie was Elon's first on the road this season. The Phoenix finishes the regular season with a 4-2-1 away record. Â
