RICHMOND, Va. – Elon goalkeeper
Naomi Person was picked as the CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday as the conference announced its weekly women's soccer awards.
Person matched her career high with seven saves Sunday at College of Charleston, pitching a shutout in a 0-0 tie. It was Person's second shutout in conference play, with the other coming against Campbell on Sept. 20.
The redshirt sophomore goalie has made seven saves in each of her last two starts after also hitting that total Oct. 11 at Monmouth. This was the fifth shutout Person has been a part of this season having shared a trio of clean sheets with
Anica Carpenter to go along with her two solo shutouts.
Person and Carpenter have now each won CAA Defensive Player of the Week in the last three weeks. The Phoenix has blanked two of its last three conference opponents.
Person shared the weekly honor with UNCW defender Ava Chuderewicz. Person is the fifth Phoenix goalkeeper to earn the award since Elon became a CAA member, joining McKenna Dalfonso (four times),
Katie Bisgrove, (three times), Valentina Estrada and Carpenter.
Elon turns its attention to the CAA Tournament, which begins Thursday with the quarterfinals. The Phoenix is the No. 2 seed from the South Division and will host No. 3 seed William & Mary at Rudd Field at noon.
