Elon Completes Perfect Week at Home

Phoenix Downs Davidson In Third Straight Sweep

ELON – The Elon women's tennis team (6-2) completed a three-win week at home on Sunday with a 4-0 sweep against Davidson (5-2) at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

Elon claimed the doubles point behind wins at the Nos. 1 and 3 spots, then carried that momentum into singles play, earning straight-set victories on Courts 1-3 to secure the shutout.

The win capped off a 3-0 week at home for the Phoenix. Elon swept all three matches, going a perfect 12-0 in singles and 7-0 in doubles in victories against North Carolina A&T, Wofford and Davidson.

The Rundown
  • A pair of impressive performances sealed the doubles point for the Phoenix.
  • Cornelia Kack and Lisa Kranec powered past Davidson's Olivia Hooper and Keri Rothenberg, jumping out to a 4-0 lead before closing out a 6-3 win. The pair now leads the Phoenix with six doubles victories this spring.
  • Simone Bergeron and Mariana Reding secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 1 over Savanna Kollock and Bryson Langford. Elon's top tandem improved to 23 career dual wins together with their fifth victory of the campaign.
  • On Court 2, Madison Cordisco and Alexis Nyborg held a 4-3 edge when play was halted.
  • Elon's Nos. 1 and 3 pairs both went 3-0 this week as the Phoenix won doubles points against North Carolina A&T, Wofford and Davidson.
  • In singles, Bergeron gave the Phoenix a 2-0 advantage with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory on Court 1, her third straight win at the top spot.
  • Kack pushed Elon's lead to 3-0 on Court 2, taking the opening set, 6-2, before racing ahead 4-0 in the second on her way to a 6-4 finish. The sophomore went 2-0 in singles this week and was two games away from winning yesterday against Wofford.
  • Reding clinched the match at No. 3 with a resilient performance. Trailing 5-2 in the first set, she won four of the next five games and edged Davidson's Ellie Hammond in a tiebreak, 7-6 (2). She carried that momentum into a 6-3 second-set win to seal the team victory. Reding now leads the Phoenix with six wins this season, all at the No. 3 position.
  • Reding and Bergeron both went 3-0 in singles this week and added three doubles victories together. They were the only Phoenix to go 6-0 across doubles and singles this week.
  • Kranec rebounded from a first-set loss to dominate the second set, 6-0. The match was halted with Kranec leading 3-1 in the third.
  • At No. 5 singles, Nyborg battled through a tight opening set, prevailing in a tiebreak after trailing by a break in the frame. She led 4-2 in the second when play stopped.
