Bocock Earns 600th Career Win As Elon Tops UNCW

Phoenix Remains Unbeaten In CAA Play With Series Victory

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Elon head softball coach Kathy Bocock earned her 600th career victory as the Phoenix defeated UNCW, 4-2, on Saturday in game two of its CAA series at Boseman Field.

The Phoenix (11-18, 5-0 CAA) secured its second league series of the year and remains the lone unbeaten team in conference play. It also marked Elon's first series win at UNCW (15-13, 3-2 CAA) since 2022, with the Phoenix now having won four of the past five meetings between the two programs.

At the Plate
  • Elon recorded eight hits against the Seahawks, highlighted by a career day from rookie Jenna Klein. The Orlando, Fla., native went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Payton Swart continued her strong weekend, going 2-for-3 for her second multi-hit performance of the series.
  • Teagan Baulsir drove in a team-high three RBI, while Kayla Wilson added another. The Phoenix left seven runners on base and drew three walks while striking out four times.
In the Circle
  • Lia Miller earned the win in relief, improving to 3-2 on the season. The junior tossed 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with one strikeout.
  • Chana Wolfe started the contest and threw 3.0 scoreless innings, allowing two hits before giving way to Miller.
The Rundown
The Phoenix was unable to capitalize early despite putting runners on base in each of the first two innings. Elon had a runner aboard with one out in both frames but hit into a pair of double plays to end the threats.

UNCW applied pressure in the bottom of the second, placing a runner on third with one out following a leadoff double and a passed ball. Elon escaped the jam with a popup and a groundout to end the inning.

The Seahawks again threatened in the third. A Phoenix error allowed the leadoff hitter to reach before advancing to third with one out. Wolfe induced a groundout to strand the runner and keep the game scoreless.

Elon broke through in the top of the fourth. The Phoenix loaded the bases on a walk, an error and a single before Baulsir delivered a two-run single to left field, giving Elon a 2-0 lead.

After UNCW opened the bottom of the fourth with a leadoff single, Miller entered in relief and retired the next three batters, working around a wild pitch to maintain the shutout.

The Phoenix added insurance runs in the sixth. Singles by Klein and Swart put runners in scoring position before Baulsir lifted a sacrifice fly to score Klein. Swart later crossed the plate on a groundout by Wilson, extending the lead to 4-0.

UNCW mounted a final push in the seventh, scoring two runs on a two-out double to cut the deficit to 4-2 and bring the tying run to the plate. Miller, however, retired the final batter on a groundout to secure the win and the series.

On Deck
