WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Elon softball team suffered its first loss in CAA play, falling 1-0 to UNCW on Sunday in the series finale at Boseman Stadium.
 
Elon moves to 11-19 overall and 5-1 in conference play. UNCW improves to 16-13 with a 4-2 mark in the CAA.
 
In the Circle

• Anna Dew took the loss, falling to 7-5 on the season. The junior struck out five batters in a complete-game effort, allowing five hits and one run.
• Dew's counterpart, UNCW's Camille Hamilton, tossed a one-hitter and also struck out five.

At the Plate

• Elon recorded just one hit, coming from Mary Moss Wirt, who went 1-for-2.
• Chloe Hatzopoulos drew two walks as the Phoenix left two runners on base. 

The Rundown
UNCW applied early pressure in the bottom of the second inning, placing runners on the corners with no outs after back-to-back singles. Elon escaped the threat, recording the next three outs on a strikeout, a caught stealing and another strikeout.
 
The Seahawks broke through in the fourth inning, scoring on a groundout to take a 1-0 lead.
 
Elon was unable to generate offense late, going without a baserunner from the fifth through the seventh innings as UNCW secured the shutout.
