RICHMOND, Va. – After clinching the doubles point in Elon's victory at William & Mary last weekend,
Veljko Krstic and
Nikola Parichkov were named CAA Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week on Tuesday as the conference announced its weekly tennis awards.
Elon's top doubles pairing took down Oliver Hague and Gur Trakhtenberg, the two-time reigning CAA Doubles Team of the Week, in a tiebreak at the No. 1 spot to secure the opening point for the Phoenix in its first match against a conference opponent this spring. The doubles point was crucial in Elon's 6-1 victory over the Tribe.
Krstic and Parichkov went down an early break in the match before rallying to take the contest into a tiebreak. With the score tied at 6-6 in the breaker, the Phoenix duo won the next two points to earn a 7-6 (6) win. It was the pairing's second decisive tiebreak win of the season, as the tandem also clinched Elon's doubles point against Charlotte on Feb. 19 with a winning breaker.
It was the fourth win of the season for Krstic and Parichkov, who won the first Doubles Team of the Week honor of the spring on Jan. 27. This is the third Doubles Team of the Week nod for Krstic after also earning the weekly award on March 28, 2023, with partner
Oskar Antinheimo.
