Elon Recovers For CAA Road Win

Phoenix Comes Back To Win In Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. – A trio of third-set singles victories lifted the No. 72 Elon women's tennis team (11-3) to a 5-2 road victory over CAA rival College of Charleston (8-6) on Tuesday at the Turner Tennis Center at Patriots Point.

Madison Cordisco, Cornelia Kack and Lisa Kranec all came through in final sets to help the Phoenix secure its first victory against the Cougars in Charleston since 2018. It was the first final-set victory of the season for both Cordisco and Kranec, with Kack delivering the winning point at the No. 1 spot for the third time in the last four matches.

For the second time in three outings, Elon recovered from dropping the doubles point, winning five of the six singles contests to complete the comeback.

The Rundown
  • The Cougars took the doubles point with wins at the top two spots.
  • Kack and Kranec were knotted at 3-3 with Jaiden McKee and Saige Severance on Court 3 when the match was halted.
  • Mariana Reding evened the score at 1-1 with her ninth straight victory on Court 3. Reding defeated Francesva Salvato, 7-5, 6-1 to pick up her team-best 12th win of the spring. Reding won a 6-1 set for the sixth consecutive contest, as the junior's last five clinching sets have come by either a 6-0 or 6-1 score.
  • Shortly after the win from her doubles partner, Simone Bergeron put Elon ahead 2-1 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Oziera Ahmad at the No. 2 spot. It was the junior's third straight victory playing No. 2 singles, with all three coming in straight sets. Bergeron has won her last three singles outings by a combined score of 36-10.
  • The Cougars pulled back even, 2-2, with a win at No. 4 singles.
  • A three-set win by Madison Cordisco on Court 6 restored Elon's lead. Cordisco split her opening two frames against Riley Trinkle but raced out to a 5-0 advantage in the deciding set on her way to a 6-1 set win. The victory was Cordisco's first in a final set this season and her fourth overall this spring.
  • The final two matches came down to deciding sets, with Elon needing to win just one to secure the match victory.
  • Kack lost her opening set from 4-1 up but recovered in the second set, winning the final three games to take it, 7-5. Kack went ahead 3-0 in the third against Sia Carlov but had her lead reduced to 4-3. After trading the next two games, Kack won the 10th game to finish off a 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 win and deliver Elon the winning point.
  • The win was Kack's 10th of the season as she joined Reding with double-digit singles victories. She is 3-0 playing the No. 1 spot, with the wins serving as Elon's clinching points against Furman, UConn and College of Charleston. The sophomore is now 2-0 in deciding sets this season, with the other coming against Furman.
  • Kranec pushed Elon to 3-0 in third sets on the day with a 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 triumph against Marra Bruce in the final match to finish on Court 5. Kranec took a 4-1 lead in the final set, but Bruce reeled off four games in a row to take the lead. However, Kranec responded by winning the next three games to take the match. It was her first victory in a final set in three tries this spring. The sophomore has won three consecutive matches, all coming at the No. 5 spot.
  • The win was Elon's second this season after losing the doubles point. The Phoenix also flipped its match against UConn after losing doubles to win 5-2.
  • This was Elon's first road victory against the Cougars since 2018 as the Phoenix had lost its previous two trips to Charleston. Elon has now won three straight matches against the Cougars.
  • Elon has now won eight of its last nine matches, outscoring its opponents 43-9 in that stretch.
  • This was Elon's first time winning multiple three-set matches this season. It was the first time the Phoenix has won three deciding sets in the same match since March 1, 2025, against South Carolina State.
  • The Phoenix has now won consecutive road matches after dropping its first two away decisions this season.
  • Elon is now 2-0 against CAA opponents this season.
