Elon Travels To Charleston For Key CAA Series

Phoenix, Cougars Clash In South Division Weekend Set

ELON – The Elon softball team continues CAA play this week, traveling to South Carolina for a matchup at College of Charleston. The Phoenix (11-23, 5-4 CAA) and the Cougars (16-21, 7-5 CAA) will meet for a three-game set at Patriots Point.

  • Friday, April 3 – 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 4 – 3 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 5 – 12 p.m.
FOLLOW THE PHOENIX SERIES HISTORY
  • Elon holds a 41-34 all-time advantage over College of Charleston dating back to 1999 in its fastpitch era. Since becoming CAA opponents in 2015, the Phoenix is 26-10 versus the Cougars.
  • Entering the weekend, Elon has won seven straight games in the series and 19 of the last 21 overall against Charleston.
  • The two teams last met in the 2025 CAA Softball Championship, with Elon earning a 4-3 win. The Phoenix also swept the regular-season series last year in Elon.
  • This weekend marks Elon's first trip to Charleston since 2024, when the Phoenix also swept the series.
  • Charleston's last win in the series came in 2023 in Elon (9-1). The Phoenix's last loss at Patriots Point was a 12-5 decision in 2019.
LAST TIME OUT
  • Elon hosted Campbell this past weekend in its third CAA series of the season. The Camels swept the three-game set, handing the Phoenix its first series loss of the year.
  • Lani Wyrick led Elon offensively, batting .500 (4-for-8) with two runs scored and an RBI. She recorded a career-high three hits in game two of the series.
  • Rookie Jenna Klein had her best outing of the season in the finale, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles.
  • Kyra Leonard pitched a career-high 4.1 innings in relief in the finale, allowing two runs.
AROUND THE HORN
  • Elon sits fourth in the CAA South Division standings behind UNCW (7-2), Campbell (7-2) and Charleston (7-5). Hofstra leads the North Division at 11-1.
  • The Phoenix is slashing .227/.306/.320 with 117 runs, 42 extra-base hits and 97 RBI. Elon is also 10-0 when outhitting its opponents.
  • Chloe Hatzopoulos leads Elon with a .281 average, 27 hits and 39 total bases. She is five runs shy of 100 for her career and one home run away from becoming the fourth player in program history with 30.
  • In CAA play, Klein leads the Phoenix with a .333 batting average, while Wyrick is second at .320. Wyrick is tied with Teagan Baulsir with four RBI to lead the team in league games.
  • Elon ranks fourth in the CAA in hit-by-pitch (21). Greta Hessenthaler (10) and Wyrick (five) both rank among the league's top five in that category.
  • Anna Dew headlines the pitching staff with team bests in ERA (3.27), innings (87.2) and wins (seven). The Harrisburg, N.C., native has struck out 84 batters, second-most in the CAA.
  • Elon had three players named to the 2026 Preseason All-CAA Team on Jan. 27: Hatzopoulos, Hessenthaler and Kayla Wilson. The Phoenix was also selected as the favorite to win the South Division.
  • Elon is in its 49th season of softball, including its 37th fastpitch season and 27th at the Division I level.
  • Head coach Kathy Bocock is in her 15th season leading the Phoenix. The program's all-time winningest coach, she has 365 wins at Elon and 600 career victories across 29 seasons. 
SCOUTING COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON (16-21, 7-5 CAA)
  • The Cougars enter the weekend at 16-21 overall and 7-5 in the CAA. Charleston is coming off a series loss at UNCW after being swept by the Seahawks, extending its losing streak to four games.
  • Offensively, Charleston is hitting .260 with two players batting .300 or better. Bronwyn Conroy leads the team with a .388 average and 45 hits, while Leela Langston is hitting .350 with a team-high 24 RBI.
  • In the circle, the Cougars have a 5.30 ERA across 241.2 innings with 154 strikeouts and 101 walks. Mackenzie Mathis leads the staff with a 3.97 ERA in 90.0 innings and a 9-6 record with 73 strikeouts.
BOCOCK REACHES 600 CAREER WINS
  • Elon head coach Kathy Bocock earned her 600th career win against UNCW on March 22. The winningest coach in program history, it was also her 365th victory in 15 seasons with the Phoenix.
  • Bocock totaled 235 wins as head coach at Averett from 1993-2007 before taking over at Elon in 2012.
  • Among active Division I softball coaches, Bocock is tied for 48th on the career wins list with 600 victories over 29 seasons. 
DEW NAMED CAA CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK (AGAIN)
  • For the second time this season, Anna Dew earned CAA Co-Pitcher of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on Monday, March 23. She shared the accolade with Charleston's Mackenzie Mathis.
  • The Harrisburg, N.C., native went 1-1 in the circle, posting a 0.54 ERA over 13.0 innings while striking out nine batters at UNCW last weekend. She scattered four hits in a 2-0 series-opening shutout on Friday, earning her second shutout of the year. She added five strikeouts in her second complete-game outing of the weekend on Sunday, allowing just one run.
  • This marks Dew's second weekly honor this season after also sharing the award on March 10 with Towson's Olivia Trombley.

  • Elon returns home to Hunt Softball Park to host Hampton for a CAA series on April 10-12.
