ELON – The Elon softball team suffered a 6-2 setback to Hampton in the second game of its CAA series on Saturday at Hunt Softball Park.

Elon fell to 12-27 overall and 6-8 in CAA play. The Pirates improved to 9-26 and 3-14 against league opponents while evening the series.

At the Plate
- The Phoenix was held to three hits, with each base knock coming from a different player. Peyton Fitzpatrick, Payton Swart and Mary Moss Wirt each went 1-for-3 to lead Elon at the plate.
- Wirt drove in a pair of runs after entering as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the second. Teagan Baulsir drew two walks, while Jenna Klein also earned a free pass.

In the Circle
- Lia Miller suffered the loss, falling to 3-5 on the year. She allowed five runs over 6.0 innings while striking out three. Chana Wolfe pitched one inning in relief.

The Rundown
The Pirates struck first in the top of the first inning. Hampton scored on a two-out single to left, with the runner beating the throw home from
Chloe Hatzopoulos to take a 1-0 lead.

Elon responded with a two-run bottom of the second. Baulsir and Fitzpatrick reached to lead off the frame via a walk and a single, respectively. Hampton recorded the next two outs, threatening to strand the runners, before Wirt entered as a pinch hitter. The senior delivered a single into right field, scoring both Baulsir and Fitzpatrick to give the Phoenix a 2-1 lead.

Hampton answered with a three-run top of the third. The Pirates loaded the bases with one out and tied the game on a single before a two-out, two-RBI single to left-center put Hampton ahead, 4-2.

The Pirates added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings, including a solo home run, to extend the lead to 6-2. Elon put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh as Baulsir drew a leadoff walk and Swart singled with one out, but Hampton induced a pair of groundouts to secure the win.
