Elon Treks To Campbell For CAA Road Test

Phoenix Faces South Division Co-Leader For Three-Game Set

ELON – The Elon softball team hits the road for a tough CAA test as the Phoenix (13-27, 7-8 CAA) treks to Campbell (25-17, 12-3 CAA) for a three-game set Friday through Sunday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium in Buies Creek, N.C.

WEEKEND SCHEDULE
  • Friday, April 17 – 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 18 – 2 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 19 – 12 p.m.
FOLLOW THE PHOENIX SERIES HISTORY
  • The two teams have met 50 times on the softball diamond entering this weekend's series, with Campbell holding a 33-16-1 advantage all-time.
  • This weekend marks the second three-game set between the teams this year under the new CAA divisional format. The squads last met March 27-29 in Elon.
  • The Camels swept the Phoenix in Elon, in their most recent series in March, handing the Maroon and Gold its first home series sweep since 2018. Campbell narrowly won the opener, 3-1, in 10 innings before claiming the series with a pair of run-rule victories.
  • Three players recorded hits for the Phoenix in the series, led by Lani Wyrick (.500), Greta Hessenthaler (.286) and Jenna Klein (.286). Klein drove in a team-best three RBI.
  • Elon has won four of its last six games in Buies Creek, including last year's 2-1 regular-season series victory. The Phoenix also defeated host Campbell twice at the CAA Championship last spring to claim its first league tournament title.
LAST TIME OUT
  • Elon defeated Hampton, 2-1, to take the series after entering the weekend on an eight-game losing streak. The Phoenix won the opener, 8-0, before the Pirates evened the series with a 6-2 win in game two. The Maroon and Gold secured the series with another 8-0 victory in the rubber match.

  • The top two teams from each division qualify for the six-team CAA Championship, with two at-large spots awarded to the teams with the highest conference winning percentages outside of those positions. Elon is currently tied with Drexel for the sixth and final spot with a .467 league winning percentage.
