BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Doomed by a big offensive bottom of the third inning, the Elon softball team suffered an 18-1 setback at Campbell on Saturday in its second game of the CAA series at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
Â
Elon (14-28, 8-9 CAA) took an early lead against the Camels (27-18, 13-4 CAA) but saw Campbell score 18 unanswered runs, including an 11-run bottom of the third, to even the series. The Phoenix also committed five errors in the contest, matching its season high.
At the Plate
- The Phoenix recorded five hits but struck out nine times compared to three walks. Jenna Klein stood out at the dish, going 2-for-2 with both hits going for doubles.
- Teagan Baulsir drove in the lone RBI for the Phoenix, pushing her team-high total to 19 on the year.

The Rundown
Elon scratched across the first run of the game in the top of the first.
Greta Hessenthaler singled to lead off the game and moved to third on a one-out double by Klein. A Baulsir sacrifice fly to right field drove home Hessenthaler to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead.
Â
The Camels, however, answered in the bottom half of the inning. Campbell drew a bases-loaded walk with one out to tie the game at 1-1. The Phoenix induced the next two outs to limit the damage.
Â
Campbell loaded the bases again in the bottom of the second with one out before scoring on a fielder's choice to take the lead. A two-out RBI double added another run as the Phoenix faced a 3-1 deficit after two innings.
Â
The hosts broke the game open with an 11-run bottom of the third, pushing the score to 14-1. Campbell added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend its lead to 18-1 heading into the fifth.
Â
The Phoenix put one more runner on in the top of the fifth as
Julia Tamulski drew a walk, but it was not enough as the Camels secured the run-rule victory.
