Phoenix Closes Home Slate With Stony Brook

Senior Day Set For Sunday At Hunt Softball Park

ELON – The Elon softball team gears up for its final home series of the regular season as the Phoenix (14-29, 8-10 CAA) hosts Stony Brook (17-24, 8-10 CAA) for a three-game CAA series Friday through Sunday at Hunt Softball Park.
 
The Phoenix will also host Senior Day on Sunday and recognize its five-member class of Reili Gardner, Mauri Murray, Payton Swart, Mary Moss Wirt and Chana Wolfe.

FOLLOW THE PHOENIX SERIES HISTORY
  • Elon and Stony Brook have met nine times entering the weekend, dating back to 2004. The Phoenix holds a 6-3 advantage in the all-time series.
  • Since becoming conference opponents in 2023, the two teams have squared off seven times, including six regular-season matchups. Elon is 4-3 in those games, including a series sweep the last time the teams met at Hunt Softball Park in 2023.
  • The programs last met in 2024 at Stony Brook, where the Seawolves won two out of three to take the series. Elon hit .277 in the three-game set, with Murray leading the way with a .556 average. 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Phoenix played at Campbell last weekend for its second CAA series of the season against the Camels. Elon took the opening game, 4-1, but Campbell rebounded to win the next two and claim the series.
  • Offensively, Jenna Klein batted .500 (3-for-6) to lead the Phoenix. Swart also had a strong series, hitting .400 (2-for-5). Both players drew a pair of walks.
  • Anna Dew went 1-1 in the series, posting a 3.50 ERA across 12.0 innings. She held Campbell hitters to a .244 average.
CAA HOME STRETCH
  • With six CAA games remaining, Elon sits at 8-10 in conference play, fourth in the South Division. UNCW and Campbell are tied for the division lead at 14-4, while Charleston is third at 12-6. Hofstra continues to lead the North Division with an 18-3 record.
  • The top two teams from each division qualify for the six-team CAA Championship, with two at-large spots awarded based on highest conference winning percentage outside those positions.
  • Elon is currently in a four-way tie for the sixth and final championship spot with Drexel, Monmouth and Stony Brook at with a .444 conference winning percentage. 
AROUND THE HORN
  • Dew continues to rack up strikeouts, totaling 115 on the season, second in the CAA. The Harrisburg, N.C., native also ranks fifth-most in single-season strikeouts at the Division I level in program history.
  • Dew also ranks in the CAA's top 10 in ERA (3.03), opponent batting average (.233), innings pitched (120.0) and wins (10). She is 25th nationally in shutouts with four.
  • Klein leads the team with a .278 batting average. The rookie is hitting .318 in CAA play with a team-best 14 hits, six RBI and five doubles, recording a hit in three of her last four games.
  • Chloe Hatzopoulos hit her team-best fourth home run last weekend at Campbell. The fifth-year became the fourth player in program history with 30 or more career homers.
  • Lani Wyrick is a perfect 13-for-13 in stolen bases and ranks third in the CAA with 99 defensive assists, which is also 60th nationally.
  • Elon is in its 49th season of softball, including its 37th fastpitch season and 27th at the Division I level.
  • Head coach Kathy Bocock is in her 15th season leading the Phoenix. The program's all-time winningest coach, she has 368 wins at Elon and 603 career victories across 29 seasons.
SCOUTING STONY BROOK (17-24, 8-10 CAA)
  • The Seawolves enter the weekend tied for second in the North Division at 8-10 with Drexel and Monmouth. Stony Brook was swept by Hofstra last weekend before earning a 4-3 win over St. John's on Tuesday.
  • Stony Brook owns a .257/.354/.335 slash line with 160 runs, 19 home runs and 146 RBI. Rachel Brown (.371) and Ashlyn Burgess (.309) are the only regulars hitting above .300.
  • Brown leads the team in home runs (eight) and RBI (32) and ranks among the CAA's top five in slugging percentage (.645) and OPS (1.083).
  • In the circle, the Seawolves have a 3.82 ERA across 267.1 innings with 160 strikeouts and 108 walks. Jayci Finch has made 28 appearances (17 starts) with a 3.05 ERA in 96.1 innings and a 9-9 record this season.
BOCOCK REACHES 600 CAREER WINS
  • Elon head coach Kathy Bocock earned her 600th career win against UNCW on March 22. The winningest coach in program history, it was also her 365th victory in 15 seasons with the Phoenix.
  • Bocock totaled 235 wins as head coach at Averett from 1993-2007 before taking over at Elon in 2012.
  • Among active Division I softball coaches, Bocock is tied for 48th on the career wins list with 600 victories over 29 seasons.

  • The Phoenix concludes the regular season at North Carolina A&T, Thursday through Saturday, April 30-May 2.
