Elon Finishes Regular Season At N.C. A&T

Phoenix Seek To Clinch Spot For CAA Tournament

ELON – The Elon softball team wraps up its regular season at longtime Piedmont Triad rival North Carolina A&T this weekend in a three-game CAA series, beginning Thursday through Saturday at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex.
 
SERIES SCHEDULE
  • Thursday, April 30 – 4 p.m.
  • Friday, May 1 – 4 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 2 – 2 p.m. 
FOLLOW THE PHOENIX SERIES HISTORY
  • The Phoenix and the Aggies are meeting for their fifth CAA series overall and the second three-game set this season. Elon holds an all-time advantage of 59-10 against its I-40 rival and has won 21 straight in the series.
  • Elon swept the Aggies earlier this season at Hunt Softball Park on March 6-8. The Phoenix also improved to 12-0 all-time versus N.C. A&T since the two programs became league opponents in 2023.
  • Anna Dew was dominant in the circle, going 2-0 with a 1.14 ERA in 12.1 innings. She tied her then-career high with 10 strikeouts in the series opener and fanned eight more in the finale.
LAST TIME OUT
  • Elon hosted Stony Brook in its final home series of the season last weekend. The Phoenix dropped the opener to the Seawolves but rebounded to win the final two contests to claim the series.
  • Elon posted a .346 batting average, with six players hitting .300 or better, including four at .500 or higher. Reili Gardner led the Phoenix with a .571 average, while Greta Hessenthaler added a .500 average with five hits, four RBI and three doubles.
  • In the circle, Elon's staff posted a 2.58 ERA versus the Seawolves. Lia Miller earned the game two win with a complete-game performance and a 2.00 ERA over the weekend. Anna Dew picked up the win in the rubber match in relief and posted a 2.25 ERA in a team-high 9.1 innings pitched across the series. 
CAA HOME STRETCH
  • Entering the final series of the regular season, Elon sits at 10-11 in conference play, fourth in the South Division. Campbell leads the division at 17-4, followed by Stony Brook at 16-5. Charleston is third at 13-8, while Hofstra leads the North Division at 18-3.
  • The top two teams from each division qualify for the six-team CAA Championship, with two at-large spots awarded based on highest conference winning percentage outside those positions.
  • Elon is currently in a three-way tie for the sixth and final championship spot with Drexel and Monmouth, each at a .476 conference winning percentage. 
AROUND THE HORN
  • Dew continues to rack up strikeouts, totaling 123 on the season, second in the CAA. The Harrisburg, N.C., native also ranks fifth in single-season strikeouts in program history at the Division I level.
  • Dew also ranks in the CAA's top 10 in ERA (2.98), opponent batting average (.236), innings pitched (129.1) and wins (11). She is 34th nationally in shutouts with four.
  • Chloe Hatzopoulos holds the highest batting average among Phoenix regulars at .271. The fifth-year recently became the fourth player in program history with 30 or more career home runs at Campbell on April 19 and is second on the team in RBI.
  • Hessenthaler is second on the team with a .264 average and is tied for the team lead with seven doubles. The Liberty, N.C., native is second in total hits (34) and has been hit by a pitch 10 times this season.
  • Teagan Baulsir is tied with Hatzopoulos for the team lead in home runs with four after adding one Sunday versus Stony Brook. The junior leads the Phoenix with 22 RBI.
  • Lani Wyrick is a perfect 14-for-14 in stolen bases and ranks third in the CAA with 104 defensive assists, which is also 71st nationally.
  • Elon is in its 49th season of softball, including its 37th fastpitch season and 27th at the Division I level.
  • Head coach Kathy Bocock is in her 15th season leading the Phoenix. The program's all-time winningest coach, she has 370 wins at Elon and 605 career victories over 29 seasons.
SCOUTING N.C. A&T (19-31, 4-17 CAA)
  • The Aggies are coming off a series loss at Monmouth last weekend. N.C. A&T opened with a game one victory but dropped the final two contests.
  • N.C. A&T is 8-10 at home and is hitting .249 as a team. The Aggies have scored 229 runs with 33 home runs and 193 RBI. Katriel Williams leads the lineup with a .267 batting average.
  • A trio of players — Jamari Moss (31), Tyra Robinson (29) and Ayanna Mears (24) — have recorded 20 or more RBI this season. Robinson leads the Aggies with eight home runs, followed by Moss with seven, with both ranking in the league's top 10.
  • N.C. A&T has a 4.53 ERA in 318.0 innings as a staff, striking out 230 batters compared to 183 walks. Junior Aaliyah Williams has fanned 124 batters in 126.2 innings while posting a 3.45 ERA.

  • The 2026 CAA Softball Championship will take place May 6-9 at Hunt Softball Park. All games will stream on FloCollege.
