Elon Welcomes Pirates To Hunt Softball Park

ELON – The Elon softball team returns to Hunt Softball Park for CAA play this weekend as the Phoenix (11-26, 5-7 CAA) hosts Hampton (8-25, 2-13 CAA) in a three-game series Friday through Sunday.

WEEKEND SCHEDULE
  • Friday, April 10 – 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 11 – 2 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 12 – 1 p.m.
FOLLOW THE PHOENIX SERIES HISTORY
  • The Phoenix leads the all-time series against the Pirates, 13-2, dating back to 1998 in Elon's fastpitch era (since 1990).
  • Since becoming league opponents in 2023, Elon holds a 6-2 record versus Hampton.
  • Elon is also unbeaten at home against the Pirates with a 9-0 all-time mark.
  • Last season, Elon won two of three games at Hampton. As a team, Elon batted .404 with a .585 slugging percentage and a .486 on-base percentage. Ten players hit over .300 in the series, including five with 10 or more at-bats.
  • Elon last hosted Hampton during the 2024 season, sweeping the Pirates in the three-game series.
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Phoenix was swept at College of Charleston last weekend, extending its losing streak to eight games. Elon was competitive in the series, with two games decided by one run, both ending in walk-offs.
  • Four players batted .300 or better, led by Mary Moss Wirt at .429. Rookie Jenna Klein hit .364 and led the Phoenix with four hits and two RBI. Reili Gardner (.375) and Greta Hessenthaler (.333) also hit above .300.
  • Elon recorded 10 hits in the series finale, its first game with double-digit hits since March 15 versus Tarleton State.
  • The pitching staff posted a 2.41 ERA, with three players seeing action. Chana Wolfe held Charleston to a .167 average and recorded a team-best 1.40 ERA.
  • Anna Dew struck out a career-high 11 batters in the series opener and finished the weekend with 13 strikeouts in 9.1 innings. It marked her third double-digit strikeout performance this season, the most by an Elon pitcher in a single year since Kiandra Mitchum had five.
CAA HOME STRETCH
  • At the halfway point of conference play, Elon sits at 5-7 and fourth in the South Division. UNCW and Campbell are tied for first at 10-2, followed by Charleston at 10-5. Hofstra leads the North Division at 14-1.
  • The top two teams from each division qualify for the six-team CAA Championship. The remaining two spots go to the teams with the highest conference winning percentage outside of the top two in each division.
AROUND THE HORN

  • Freshman Jenna Klein leads Elon with a .281 batting average. In CAA play, she is hitting .345 with a .448 slugging percentage and is tied for the team lead with five doubles.

  • Elon had three players named to the 2026 Preseason All-CAA Team on Jan. 27: Hatzopoulos, Hessenthaler and Kayla Wilson. The Phoenix was also selected as the favorite to win the South Division.
  • Elon is in its 49th season of softball, including its 37th fastpitch season and 27th at the Division I level.
  • Head coach Kathy Bocock is in her 15th season leading the Phoenix. The program's all-time winningest coach, she has 365 wins at Elon and 600 career victories across 29 seasons.
