  • The two programs last met for a series at Campbell on April 17-19. Elon won the opening game, 5-1, but fell in the final two contests of the three-game set against the Camels.
  • Jenna Klein is the Phoenix's top hitter against the Camels, as the rookie has batted a team-best .385 in the six games. Five of her base hits were doubles while she also drew three walks and drove in three runs.
  • The Phoenix and the Camels will meet in the CAA Tournament for the first time since playing for the league championship title last season in Buies Creek, N.C. Wednesday will be the fourth overall game between the two programs in CAA postseason play.
LAST TIME OUT
  • Elon closed out its regular season at Piedmont Triad rival North Carolina A&T last weekend. Despite opening the series with a 2-1 setback, the Phoenix recovered to win the next two games to help clinch a spot in the CAA Tournament.
  • The Phoenix had strong performances in the circle from juniors Anna Dew and Lia Miller, with the duo combining for a 2.33 ERA in 21.0 innings. Miller posted her first shutout of the season in Elon's 4-0 game two victory, while Dew struck out seven batters in relief in the rubber match as the Maroon and Gold won in extras, 8-6.
  • Teagan Baulsir and Mary Moss Wirt led the Phoenix at the plate, with both players contributing a .273 batting average. Baulsir also added three doubles to her stat line.
  • Defensively, Elon turned four double plays in game two, setting a new program single-game record and finishing one shy of tying the NCAA Division I record.
CAA POSTSEASON CENTRAL
  • Elon is hosting the CAA Tournament for the second time in its league history. The Phoenix was also awarded the 2022 league tournament, reaching the final series that season.
  • The Phoenix has reached the CAA Tournament in seven straight seasons, excluding the 2020 campaign that was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That stretch is currently the longest among the active teams in the league.
  • Elon has reached the CAA title game three times in the past seven years, winning its first league tournament title last season at Campbell.
AROUND THE HORN
  • Dew continues to rack up strikeouts, totaling 134 on the season, second in the CAA and 46th overall in the country. The Harrisburg, N.C., native moved to fourth on the program's single-season strikeout list at the Division I level.
  • Dew also ranks in the CAA's top 10 in ERA (2.87), opponent batting average (.233), innings pitched (141.1) and wins (12). She is 36th nationally in shutouts with four.
  • Greta Hessenthaler leads the regulars with a .266 batting average and has a team-high 38 hits. The Liberty, N.C., native has recorded at least one base hit in five of her last six games, including a season-high three hits versus Stony Brook on April 26. The junior has also been hit by pitch 10 times this year, ranking third in the CAA.
  • Chloe Hatzopoulos is second to Hessenthaler in batting average (.262) and total hits (37). The fifth-year is tied for the team lead in home runs with four and is second on the team in RBI with 19.
  • Teagan Baulsir is tied with Hatzopoulos for the team lead in home runs with four. The junior leads the Phoenix with 24 RBI and nine doubles on the year.
  • Lani Wyrick is a perfect 16-for-16 in stolen bases and ranks third in the CAA with 109 defensive assists, which is also 76th nationally.
  • Elon is in its 49th season of softball, including its 37th fastpitch season and 27th at the Division I level.
  • Head coach Kathy Bocock is in her 15th season leading the Phoenix. The program's all-time winningest coach, she has 372 wins at Elon and 607 career victories over 29 seasons.
SCOUTING CAMPBELL (32-21, 18-6 CAA)
  • The Camels enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed. It marks the third straight year Campbell has earned a top-four seed for the CAA Championship. Campbell is coming off a series loss at UNCW, earning a split of the South Division title with the Seahawks.
  • Offensively, Campbell ranks first in the CAA in batting average (.330), hits (460), on-base percentage (.440), RBI (302) and runs scored (356). Individually, Charlie Montgomery holds a .433 average with 33 RBI as one of five players with a .300 or higher average.
  • Kylie Specht and Allyiah Swiney are tied for the team lead in RBI with 40, with Swiney pacing the squad with seven home runs. Swiney is also tied with Amber DeSena for the team lead in doubles with 14.
  • In the circle, Campbell boasts a 3.36 team ERA across 335.0 innings of work, striking out 224 batters against 143 walks. Freshman Katelyn Hubley leads the Camels' pitching staff with an 18-5 record, a 2.24 ERA, five shutouts, 150.1 innings pitched and 137 strikeouts.
