ELON – The Elon women's soccer team ( closed out nonconference play in convincing fashion Sunday, extending its unbeaten streak to five matches with a 3-0 victory over Charleston Southern at Rudd Field.
Jordan Green,
Maya Abousaab and
Isa Murdock each scored for the Phoenix, which improved to 5-1-2 entering CAA play next weekend. Green and Murdock each finished with three points on a goal and an assist as Elon posted its third consecutive shutout.
Elon controlled much of the action, outshooting Charleston Southern 18-8 and putting 10 attempts on goal.
Naomi Person and
Anica Carpenter combined for two saves in goal as the Phoenix kept its opponent off the scoreboard for a third straight match.
How It Happened
- Charleston Southern registered three of the first four shots of the afternoon, but Elon began to build pressure as the opening half progressed. Murdock put the Phoenix's first shot on goal in the 16th minute before Lauren McCauley followed with another in the 20th.
- Elon continued to test Charleston Southern goalkeeper Avery Mason, who stopped attempts from Murdock, Gabby Tirado and McCauley as the match remained scoreless into the final minutes of the first half.
- The Phoenix finally broke through in the 44th minute. Green deflected a ball by Murdock into the back of the net after Jess Beck extended Elon's possession moments prior. It was Green's second goal of the season.
- Elon came out of the break on the attack, with Maya Abousaab putting a shot on target just 10 seconds into the second half. Gia Milano also forced a save in the 56th minute as the Phoenix searched for its second goal.
- Abousaab doubled the Elon advantage in the 64th minute. Green picked up the assist on the play as Abousaab scored her second goal of the season to make it 2-0.
- After re-entering the match in the 67th minute, Murdock provided the final goal of the afternoon in the 82nd minute. The junior netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season on a free kick to extend the lead to 3-0.
- Murdock nearly struck again less than four minutes later, but her attempt hit the woodwork.
- Carpenter made a save in the 84th minute to preserve the clean sheet as Elon closed out its second home shutout of the season.

- The Phoenix is unbeaten in its last five matches, posting a 3-0-2 record during the stretch.
- Elon has recorded three consecutive shutouts, blanking VMI, American and Charleston Southern. The Phoenix has outscored those three opponents 8-0.

- Murdock recorded a goal and an assist for three points Sunday. Her six goals lead the Phoenix this season.
- Green also finished with three points, scoring her second goal of the campaign before assisting on Abousaab's second-half tally. The senior has achieved a career high with six points this season.
- Maya Abousaab has scored both of her career goals in Elon's last three matches after registering her first against VMI on Sept. 3.
- Elon outshot Charleston Southern 18-8 and held a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Phoenix also earned eight corner kicks compared to four for the Buccaneers.
- Person made one save in 63:36 of action before Carpenter played the final 26:24 and also recorded a save.
- Elon utilized 21 field players in the victory, with Alexis Pierce playing the full 90 minutes.
