SETTING THE STAGE
- Elon heads back on the road with a 4-1 overall record and 2-1 mark in CAA play after pulling away for a 43-17 victory over Maine at Rhodes Stadium. The Phoenix has won two consecutive games since its lone loss at Rhode Island.
- The Phoenix turned in its highest-scoring performance of the season against Maine, using explosive plays, disruptive special teams and another strong defensive effort. Kamerin McDowell-Moore rushed for a career-high 126 yards and two touchdowns, Dylan Magazu scored twice and Elijah Guttman threw for a career-high 179 yards. Elon also blocked two punts in the same game for the first time since 2011.
- Elon will look to snap a two-game losing streak against New Hampshire. The Wildcats earned a 17-10 victory at Rhodes Stadium in the most recent meeting in 2024. Saturday will mark Elon's first trip to Durham since 2022, where Elon is 0-4 all-time.
- New Hampshire enters the weekend 1-4 overall and 0-2 in CAA play under first-year head coach Sean Goldrich. The Wildcats are coming off a 20-13 loss at Sacred Heart despite rushing for a season-high 181 yards.
MAN IN THE MIDDLE
- Preseason All-American Brodie Carroll continues to lead the Elon defense through the first five games of the season. Carroll recorded 10 tackles in Elon's win over Maine, giving him double-digit tackles for the third consecutive game, and sixth straight CAA contest.
- Carroll has been at the center of Elon's defensive success in 2026, leading the Phoenix in tackles, tackles for loss and sacks while ranking second on the team in pass breakups. Carroll is also top-10 in the CAA in all the categories listed.
- Carroll's career-high 16-tackle performance against Sacred Heart included 11 solo stops, a sack and two pass breakups. The effort earned him CAA Defensive Player of the Week and Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week honors.
- Carroll entered 2026 on the Buck Buchanan Award preseason watch list after leading Elon with 104 tackles in his first season with the Phoenix. He added 9.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks while earning second-team All-CAA honors in 2025.
LIGHTS, KAM-ERA, ACTION
- Freshman running back Kamerin McDowell-Moore continued his impressive start with a career performance in Elon's win last Saturday against Maine. The Tarboro native rushed for a career-high 126 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries, averaging 9.0 yards per carry. His performance included a career-long 55-yard touchdown run and marked his second 100-yard rushing game of the season.
- McDowell-Moore was named CAA Co-Rookie of the Week following the performance, earning his second conference weekly honor of the season. He previously earned CAA Rookie of the Week after rushing for 88 yards and two touchdowns in Elon's 38-0 victory at Davidson.
- With his second weekly honor, McDowell-Moore continued a three-year run of Elon players earning multiple CAA Rookie of the Week awards. Landen Clark earned the award three times in 2025, while TJ Thomas earned multiple rookie honors in 2024.
- McDowell-Moore has rushed for 481 yards and four touchdowns through five games, ranking second in the CAA in rushing. He has surpassed 100 yards twice in his first five collegiate games, rushing for 117 yards at Rhode Island before setting a career high with 126 against Maine.
DOMINATING D
- Elon's defense continues to establish itself as one of the top units in the FCS through five games. The Phoenix is allowing just 15.2 points per game and has held four of its first five opponents to 21 points or fewer. Elon remains No. 1 in the CAA in both scoring defense and total defense following its victory over Maine.
- The Phoenix has been particularly effective against the pass. Elon has yet to allow an opponent to throw for 200 yards in a game this season. Maine finished with just 148 passing yards on 47 attempts, averaging 3.1 yards per attempt, as the Phoenix added eight quarterback hurries and two sacks.
- Elon has also consistently gotten off the field in critical situations. The Phoenix stopped Maine on all four of its fourth-down attempts, while the Black Bears converted just 7-of-21 third downs. Through three CAA games, Elon leads the conference in total defense at 303.7 yards allowed per game.
- The Phoenix defense has been at its best early in games. Elon has allowed just 17 first-half points through five contests and has kept four of its five opponents out of the end zone before halftime. Maine managed only a field goal in the opening half as Elon built a 19-3 advantage.
COACHING CONNECTIONS
- Saturday's trip to New Hampshire will be a homecoming of sorts for Elon head coach Tony Trisciani. A Manchester, New Hampshire, native, Trisciani spent six seasons on the New Hampshire staff over two separate stints early in his coaching career.
- Trisciani first joined the Wildcats as running backs coach for the 1998 and 1999 seasons. During that stint, he worked with future College Football Hall of Fame inductee Jerry Azumah. After spending the 2000 season as offensive coordinator at Alfred, Trisciani returned to New Hampshire as defensive backs coach from 2001-04.
- During his second stint in Durham, Trisciani helped develop three all-conference defensive backs. His final season with the Wildcats in 2004 ended with New Hampshire earning a share of the Atlantic 10 championship and advancing to the NCAA Division I-AA quarterfinals.
