Bylaw 16 of the NCAA manual categorizes athletics awards into three groups:

Participation Awards

Special Achievement Awards

Prohibited Awards

  • Cash or cash-equivalents

  • Gift cards redeemable for cash

  • Country club or sports club memberships

Vacation Period Competition

  • The NCAA allows student-athletes to accept prize money for competitions during the summer vacation periods, provided the amount does not exceed actual and necessary expenses. See Outside Competition
