Micah Posey

Micah Posey will spend his sixth season at Elon in 2017-18 following three years as an assistant coach at North Florida Christian School in Tallahassee, Fla. Posey was promoted to a fulltime positon for the 2016 season after serving three seasons as Elon’s volunteer assistant. He works with the Phoenix pitching staff.

He has helped a trio of Elon pitchers to all-conference honors and three to all-rookie team accolades. In 2017, Posey tutored Kyle Brnovich who set the program Division I freshman record for strikeouts (103) and matched the program Division I freshman mark for victories (six) on his way to CAA Freshman of the Year, first-team All-CAA and CAA All-Rookie Team accolades.

During the 2017 season, the pitching staff tossed two no-hitters, the first for the program at the NCAA Division I level. Robbie Welhaf tossed the first, no-hitting Longwood for the program's first no-no since 1989. Jordan Barrett and Kirby would later combine to no-hit College of Charleston for the first no-hitter ever thrown in the CAA Tournament. That staff also established a new program record with 491 strikeouts on the year.

In his first season with the Phoenix, the program won the SoCon Tournament title and reached the finals of the Charlottesville Regional in NCAA Tournament play.

During Posey’s tenure with North Florida Christian, the program captured the 2011 state championship and ranked in the top 30 nationally by both Baseball America and ESPN. Posey worked with 10 NCAA Division I players as well as one current professional player while at North Florida Christian.

Posey served as the head coach for the 2011 Prospectwire Underclass All-American Game. He worked with that program in 2009 and 2010 as well, recruiting players to the tournament. Among his recruits to the event was Addison Russell, the 11th overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft. Posey has had experience as a pitching coordinator and head coach with Next Level Baseball.

A 15th round selection of the Anaheim Angels out of high school, Posey signed to play professionally with the organization following one season at Tallahassee Community College where he was a first-team All-Panhandle Conference selection and a second-team all-state pick as a pitcher. Posey was a member of the Angels’ organization from 2002-07 and earned Mid-West League All-Star honors in 2004.  He also played two seasons of independent baseball where he was named to the United League’s All-Star Team and won a league title in 2008.

Posey graduated from Florida State University with a degree in marketing in December 2011.

He and his wife Julie reside in Gibsonville.
