Dr. Lee Diehl

Dr. Lee Diehl serves as the head team physician for Elon University Athletics. Dr. Diehl is an assistant professor at Duke University in teh department of orthopaedic surgery's division of sports medicine. He is a member of the editorial board for the online Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine and a principle reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine. Dr. Diehl is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association Sports Medicine Advisory Committee and a volunteer physician for the United States Olympic Committee. He completed his undergraduate studies in biology and nutrition at Colorado State University and received his medical degree with honors from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colo. He completed a surgical internship at David Grant USAF Medical Center in California and was then stationed as a Flight Surgeon at Pope AFB in Fayetteville, N.C. Dr. Diehl completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency training at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a sports medicine fellowship at The University of Chicago. After being stationed in Germany, Dr. Diehl was transferred to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. where he served as team physician for the Air Force Falcons and Assistant Chief of Sports Medicine for the University.

Dr. Diehl has over 20 years experience in sports medicine in the military and at the high school and collegiate levels. As part of the Duke Sports Medicine High School Outreach Program, he is a team physician for Cedar Ridge High School in Hillsborough N.C. In 2013, he retired as a Colonel from United States Air Force after more than 24 years of service.Â
