James Ferguson joined the Elon University athletic staff as the football director of operations in the spring of 2017 following two-year stint as a football assistant at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP).

During his tenure at IUP, Ferguson helped coached the offensive line, which helped the Crimson Hawks rank fourth nationally at the NCAA Division II level in rushing offense in 2016. In Ferguson’s two seasons at IUP, the program went 19-5 (12-2 in conference play) and made a pair of NCAA Division II Playoff appearances. In 2016, the team ended the season ranked 12th in the nation.

Ferguson spent time as a volunteer assistant scout and a camp operations intern for the Buffalo Bills.

Ferguson earned his bachelor’s degree in mass media and journalism and communication studies from Clarion University in 2014. In May of 2016, Ferguson earned his master’s degree in sports management from IUP.
