Matt Christian

Matt Christian was named wide receivers coach in Feb. of 2025 for the Elon football program. Since entering the coaching profession in 2012, Christian has spent time at New Mexico State, San Diego and Arizona State.
 
Christian had been at Arizona State since 2023, beginning as an offensive analyst for the running backs and wide receivers and then serving as an assistant running backs coach in 2024. Christian played a large role in the development of Cam Skattebo, who finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting. Skattebo was MVP of the Big 12 Championship Game, offensive MVP of the Peach Bowl and Associated Press First Team All-American.
 
Prior to his time at Arizona State, Christian was the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks/wide receivers coach at San Diego before being promoted to offensive coordinator.
 
From 2012-21, Christian worked in the football program at New Mexico State. He started as a special teams volunteer intern and was then a graduate assistant from 2013-15, working with the wide receivers and quarterbacks. From 2015-21, he was the running backs coach and also served as the academic coordinator for the program from 2017-21. He also served as Co-Special Teams Coordinator from 2017-21.
 
During his time at New Mexico State, Christian helped to develop running back Jason Huntley, who was a fifth round selection of the Detroit Lions in 2020. He also helped shape the career of Larry Rose III, who earned Associated Press Third-Team All-American honors and was named the 2015 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year.
 
Christian earned his masters degree from New Mexico State in 2015 in curriculum and instruction.
