Emily Roberts

Elon University head women’s basketball coach Charlotte Smith announced the addition of Emily Roberts to her staff on July 26, 2011. A 2005 UNC Wilmington graduate, Roberts served as the team's director of operations during the 2011-12 season before being promoted to assistant coach in the spring of 2012.

“I am very excited about the addition of Emily Roberts,” Smith said. “She is passionate and has a solid background in basketball coming from a family of championship coaches. Her experience and video production expertise will definitely help to elevate our program.”

Prior to Elon, Roberts spent the 2010-11 season as the video coordinator with the Memphis women’s basketball team. Roberts performed all video needs for the Tigers’ coaching staff, including preparing opponent game film and game and practice film to create teaching and self-scout videos. During her time there, Memphis finished with a 21-13 record and earned a bid to the WNIT.

A native of McBee, S.C., Roberts played basketball at UNC Wilmington from 2002-2005, graduating with a degree in communication studies/media studies in just three years.

Following her playing career, Roberts ventured up the road to Chapel Hill, where she served an internship as a film and media technician for the Tar Heel football program. There, she created highlight and special project films before accepting a coaching position at Cedar Ridge High School.

As the women's varsity assistant coach and the head JV basketball coach at Cedar Ridge, Roberts was responsible for coordinating practices and games, coordinating conditioning programs and individual workouts, preparing and scouting film on opponents and managing player compliance for academic eligibility. After two seasons at Cedar Ridge, Roberts was promoted to assistant athletic director, helping with facility and event management and helping the athletic director oversee all aspects of the Cedar Ridge athletics programs.

In 2008, Roberts left Cedar Ridge to become an assistant boys basketball coach at Cressent Christian Academy in Durham, N.C., where she worked primarily with the guards. She also taught defensive team strategies at Cressent and served as a video production teacher at Cedar Ridge High School. There, she taught students on camera use and video editing using Final Cut Pro. She served as the video director for a number of different special events at Cedar Ridge, including plays, dance shows, sporting events and other school-related videos.

Roberts adds a solid background in basketball as well as expertise in video production to Smith's staff. She has grown up in a basketball family. She is the granddaughter, daughter and niece of numerous championship coaches.
