ELON, NC – Coach Al Seagraves announced the addition of Scott Frazier to the Elon University football coaching staff Thursday afternoon. Frazier replaces Mark Speir as both the defensive line coach and the recruiting coordinator for the Phoenix. Speir left Elon last month for another assistant coach position at Appalachian State University.
Frazier brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Phoenix, after serving stints at the University of North Carolina (defensive video assistant 1996-97, assistant video director 2000-01, guards and centers coach 2001-03), nearby Walter M. Williams High School (defensive line coach 1991-1993, defensive line coach/strength and conditioning coordinator 1999-2000) in Burlington, NC and Jesuit High School (defensive line coach 1997-1999) in New Orleans, LA.
In 1999, Frazier coached the Williams defense that established new program records for scoring defense and rushing defense while posting six shutouts en route to a 15-1 campaign and the NCHSAA 3-A state championship. Also that season, the Bulldogs’ defensive line boasted of four all-conference players as well as two all-region honorees and one East-West All-Star.
Frazier earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Guilford College in 1993 and a master’s degree in cell and molecular biology from Tulane University in 1996. The former defensive tackle competed one season for Guilford in 1989 before suffering a career-ending knee injury.
