ASHEVILLE, NC-- UNC Asheville picked up a goal early and a goal late en route to a 2-0 men's collegiate soccer victory over Elon College, Saturday afternoon at Greenwood Field.
The Bulldogs (3-12) scored at the 12:36 mark when Josh Hartman took a pass from Bernt Reichert and headed it into the goal for a 1-0 lead. It stayed that way for most of the match as UNCA had several chances to build on the lead.
UNCA limited Elon (5-10-1) to only six shots on the day, while the Bulldogs got 16 shots on goal, including Kyle Payne's goal with eight seconds remaining in the match.
The Fightin' Christians will begin a torrid stretch to end the 1998 regular season, beginning with Wednesday night's match at second-ranked Clemson. Elon will then return home to host future Big South Conference opponent Radford for a 2:00 p.m. match at Bakatsias Field. The Fightin' Christians will then wrap up the season with a Nov. 7 match at #7 Duke.
