ELON COLLEGE, NC--Elon's #2 doubles tandem of Jenny Thigpen and Julianne Treme won the deciding match by a 9-7 score, as the Fightin' Christians claimed a 5-4 women's tennis win over East Carolina on Monday afternoon.
The teams split the six singles matches, with the Pirates claiming wins at #1 through #3 singles, including Carolina Torres' 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win over Imre Kwast of Elon at #2 singles. Elon claimed a three-set win at #4 singles, with Julianne Treme edging Meridith Spears, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The match was tied at four wins apiece after the teams split the #1 and #3 doubles matches, setting up the decisive match at #2 doubles between Elon's Treme/Thigpen and ECU's Torres/Catherine Morgan. Treme and Thigpen prevailed 9-7 to give Elon the win, as the Fightin' Christians improved to 16-2 on the year.
