CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Two Elon University women's tennis pairs are still alive in the main doubles draw at ITA Carolina Regionals after picking up victories on Friday. North Carolina is hosting the event at the Chewning Tennis Center.

Alexis Nyborg and Helen Sarikulaya, who both qualified into the main singles draw with a pair of victories Thursday, teamed up for a 8-5 win against ECU's duo of Veronika Pavlenko and Xenia Jeromin. The Phoenix pair will face the tournament's No. 3 seeded team, NC State's Jasmine Conway and Anna Zyryanova, in the second round. The victory was the second this fall for Nyborg and Sarikulaya as a team. 

Elon's duo of Cornelia Kack and Lisa Kranec also delivered a first-round doubles triumph, defeating McKenzie Davis and Roxana Valdez of Presbyerian, 8-3. They will face the No. 9 doubles seed, Anna Bella Bianca Bergqvist Larsson and Kaitlyn Carnicella of South Carolina, on Saturday. Kack and Kranec are now 4-0 playing together this fall. 

The Phoenix also had three players compete in the main singles draw Friday, with Nyborg, Sarikulaya and Simone Bergeron all falling in the opening round.

Elon will continue play Saturday in the main doubles draw and consolation singles draw.
