CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis junior
Simone Bergeron advanced to the round of 16 in the consolation singles draw at ITA Carolina Regionals on Saturday as the Phoenix completed day three of the event. North Carolina is hosting the tournament at Chewning Tennis Center.
Bergeron defeated UNCW's Elif Albayrak in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, for her first victory of the week. It was her fifth victory of the fall.
In Elon's other consolation singles match,
Alexis Nyborg came from a set down to force a match tiebreak, but ultimately fell 3-6, 6-1, 3-10 against UNC Asheville's Angelina Hug.
Elon's two remaining main-draw doubles teams fell in their second-round matches in the morning. Bergeron is the last remaining Phoenix player in the tournament.
Bergeron will face Charlotte's Sara Suchankova in the round of 16 in the singles consolation draw Sunday.
