CHARLESTON, SC -- Katie Knoepffler turned in a two-round 154 to propel Elon to third place with one round remaining after Monday's action at the 12-team Cougar Invitational at the Patriots Point Golf Links.

Knoepffler (78-76--154) earned sole possession of third place in the 67-individual medalist race, one stroke behind host College of Charleston's Jennifer Bridwell (79-74--153) and East Carolina's Jessica Kransny (76-77--153).

By following up an uncharacteristic first-round 326 earlier in the day with a second-round 307, the Phoenix (633) moved within five strokes of leader College of Charleston (628) and four behind second-place East Carolina (629). Entering Tuesday's final round, Elon is well ahead of fourth place Stetson (644) and fifth-place Wofford (646).

Elon's Sammy-Sue Wilson (T7th, 81-77--158), Laura Orlen (T14th, 84-76--160), Beth Frace (T17th, 83-78--161) and Angela Baskette (T27th, 84-79--163) all shaved significant numbers off of their scores in the second round.
