Phoenix Drops Road Game to Coastal Carolina 65-59

CONWAY, SC -- Coastal Carolina earned its first Big South victory of the season, downing Elon 65-59 Saturday night at Kimbel Arena.

Miranda Dunn hit two key layups, her only points of the game, to give the Lady Chants (7-6, 1-2 BSC) a 55-51 lead with just under three minutes to play, and Coastal never looked back, hitting six of eight free throws down the stretch to ice the victory.

The Phoenix (6-9, 1-2 BSC) led by as many as seven points in the first half before Coastal clawed its way back into the contest which featured 17 lead changes and eight ties. Elon led 26-23 at the break, but Brooke Weisbrod tied the game seconds into the final period with a long 3-pointer.

Freshman Whitney Shearer led CCU with 15 points, hitting all six of her free throw attempts, while Brooke Weisbrod, the Big South's leading scorer at 20.4 p.p.g. entering the contest, added 14 and Alison Bach 11.

Jayme Chikos netted a game-high 16 points for Elon, while Holly Andrews added 11 points in the loss.
