ELON, NC -- Elon University softball coach Patti Raduenz announced the signing of Whitney Meeks (Fuquay-Varina, NC/Fuquay-Varina HS) to a national letter of intent on Tuesday.

Meeks, a 6'0" pitcher/outfielder, was the 2001 Five County Conference Player of the Year. She is a three-time First Team All-Conference team member and was the 2000 Fuquay-Varina High MVP. In 2001 she compiled a 0.26 ERA while hitting .340. In her career she has struck out 275 hitters. In 2000 she helped lead her high school squad to a 3A State Final Four appearance. She was a member of three conference championship teams and an 18 and under USSSA World Series championship team. Meeks' 2000 USSSA team finished 10th in the 16 and under division.

Raduenz says of Whitney: "Whitney is a competitive force on the mound who has the potential to be one of the best pitchers to ever come through this program."

Whitney played for Deborah Clarke at Fuquay-Varina and is the daughter of Darryl and Lynne Meeks.
