ELON, NC -- Elon head baseball coach Mike Kennedy announced the signings of Jeffrey Mayo (Manchester, CT/ Avon Old Farms School) and Gary Raymond Morris (Franklin, NC/ Franklin HS) for the 2002 season on Monday afternoon.
Mayo, a 6'2" catcher, has been the captain of his Avon Old Farms School team for two seasons and has received the Comella Award for dedication to baseball. Mayo was also named All-League for his efforts in his junior campaign. During his junior season, Avon Old Farms tied for the league championship. Jeffrey is the son of Kevin and Kathleen Mayo.
Morris, a 5'9" shortstop, was named to the All-Western Athletic Conference team and All-WNC after his junior season. He has participated in the Region 8 State Games and the Blue-Grey Classic All-Tournament where he won All-Tournament team honors. He put up a .495 batting average, smashed 12 homeruns and notched a .920 fielding percentage in his junior year at Franklin High. Franklin's 2000 squad were Conference Co-champions and are currently leading the conference this season. Franklin was ranked #1 in North Carolina in a pre-season poll.
