Elon, N.C.- For the second time since 2019, two Elon players were taken in top-10 rounds of the MLB Draft as the Minnesota Twins selected two Phoenix in back-to-back rounds.
Ryan Sprock was the first Phoenix off the board when the Twins selected him in the eighth round of Monday's MLB Draft.
Justin Mitrovich was taken just one round later by the Twins to complete Elon's day with two Phoenix selected by the same club for the first time since 2019.
"Really excited and happy for both Ryan and Justin. Both of these guys made an immediate impact on the program and continued to work and develop in order to be in position to hear their names called in the 2025 MLB Draft," said head coach
Mike Kennedy. "It's been great to have a front row seat to watch these two play at a high level and even better to be a part of their journey of reaching the dream of playing professional baseball! I look forward to following their professional careers!"
Ryan Sprock was selected in the 8
th round as the 239
th overall selection on Monday. Sprock was selected by the Twins as a third baseman and became the second CAA infielder off the draft board. Sprock finished his junior season with 31 extra-base hits and career highs in doubles, home runs and total bases. After just three years, Sprock entered the top-10 career home run list with 30 career home runs. Sprock homered nine times against CAA opponents in 2025 and was selected as an All-CAA First Team member as the utility.
Justin Mitrovich was selected in the 9
th round as the 269
th overall selection. Mitrovich was a three-year weekend starter for the Phoenix and was the Friday night starter in both 2024 and 2025. Mitrovich started a career high 15 games in 2025 and struck out 81 batters over 89.1 innings. The Yardley, Pa. native finishes his Elon career with 243 career strikeouts which is the fifth most in Elon history. Mitrovich was awarded CAA Pitcher of the Week twice during his three years at Elon and finished with a career record of 17-14.
The duo becomes the first Elon teammates selected by the same Major League club in the same draft since George Kirby and Ty Adcock were taken by the Mariners in 2019. With two players selected yesterday, Elon now has 75 MLB Draft selections all-time; 54 of them have come during
Mike Kennedy's time as head coach. It is the 15
th time since
Mike Kennedy became the head coach that multiple Elon players have been selected in the same draft.
