Phoenix Add Four To Athletics Staff

ELON, NC -- The Elon University Department of Athletics has announced four additions to its staff for the 2001-2002 year. Assistant athletic trainer Greg Calone, assistant football coach Bradley Glenn, assistant men's soccer coach Paul Lesse and equipment manager Dwayne Turner will all join the Phoenix immediately.

Calone comes to Elon from the Arizona School of Health Sciences where he received his Master's degree. Calone is a 1999 graduate of Elon and is certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association, the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the American Red Cross. He has recently performed prevention, evaluation and rehabilitation of orthopedic injuries for the NJCAA Division I athletic teams at Phoenix College. Calone is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainers' Association, the Arizona Athletic Trainers' Association, the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the American College of Sports Medicine.

After serving six years as an assistant coach at Greer High School in Greer, SC, Glenn enters his first season as the tight ends coach with the Phoenix. While at Greer, Glenn served in many different capacities, including wide receiver coach, quarterbacks/running backs coach and offensive coordinator. In his two seasons as offensive coordinator Greer compiled a 25-3 record and finished as Upper-State Runners-Up both years. Glenn, who holds a B.A. in secondary education from Clemson, has also coached baseball at both the high school and American Legion levels.

Lesse, a native of Liverpool, England, joins the Phoenix as an assistant for Mike Reilly's staff. Lesse played collegiate soccer at both Charleston Southern and Furman, leading both schools to NCAA tournament play. A 2001 graduate of Furman University, where he earned a degree in business administration, Lesse will pursue an MBA while at Elon. Lesse began his youth playing days in Spain with C.D. Cultural de Marbella and culminated his career with Holywell Town FC of the League of Wales before entering Charleston Southern in 1997. Lesse has continued his career as a professional player, as he is currently a midfielder for the Greenville Lions in Greenville, SC. The Lions are a member of the USL D3 League. Lesse's coaching background includes stints at the School of Excellence at Chester City FC in Chester, England, Traveler's Rest High School in Traveler's Rest, SC and club soccer teams with the Tri-County Soccer Club. He has also been an instructor at various youth camps, including MLS camps, the Doug Allison Soccer Academy at Furman and the Coastal Soccer Academy.

Turner comes to Elon from Rockingham County High School where he was a teacher's assistant and coach. His duties for the Phoenix will be to assist with the management of Rhodes Stadium's operations and maintenance needs as well as be the field supervisor for home football, soccer and baseball operations. Turner will also serve as the contact person for visiting football teams regarding game-day logistics. Koury Field House will also fall under Turner's duties as well as being the director of setup for all road football contests.
