Ruckert to Play Volleyball for Elon

ELON, NC--Elon University volleyball coach Sue Leonard announced the signing of Ashley Ruckert (Metairie, LA/Academy of the Sacred Heart) to a National Letter of Intent.

Ruckert, a 5'10 middle blocker, played for coach Mike Barnes at the Academy of the Sacred Heart where she earned All-State, All-District, All-Metro and All-Orleans as a junior. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Louisiana State Championships twice and was a member of the Clarion Herald Elite Volleyball Team during her junior year. Ruckert was named Most Valuable Player at the recent State Championship where her team captured their fourth consecutive state crown. A four-year letter winner and team captain, Ruckert earned All-District honors as a senior. She was also the Most Valuable Player at the Episcopal High School Tournament, a member of the All-Tournament Team at the Episcopal High School Tournament and the St. Josepth Academy Tournament.

Ruckert smacked 277 kills (.320 kpg), served 51 aces and had 43 blocks in 2002. She helped lead her team to a District Championship in each of her four years at Sacred Heart.

"Ashley is a powerful hitter and has good presence on the court" said coach Leonard. "Ashley has played the middle hitter position, but we plan to move her to the outside so we can capitalize on her power. She will be a great addition to our program and will have a bright future with Elon volleyball."

Ashley is the daughter of John and Ellen Ruckert.
