ELON, NC -- The Phoenix emerged victorious in five of six singles bouts and in all three doubles matches Friday afternoon en route to a 6-1 Big South win over Radford at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
For Elon (8-5, 2-1 Big South Conference), it marked a second consecutive league win in as many days. For the Highlanders (2-17, 0-5), it represented a fifth-straight conference loss.
In Elon's singles victories, Pramote Malasitt (9-5) beat Bartlo Oosthuizen 6-2, 6-2 at number one, Nathan Lefevre (12-2) defeated Robel Mengisteab 6-3, 6-1 at two, Justin Roberson (6-5) ousted Joakim Arhammar 6-1, 6-3 at three, Mikael Houlst (12-1) outperformed Khalid Lhamidi 6-1, 6-2 at four and Mike Prelec (4-5) decisioned Ross Harvey 6-1, 6-2 at six.
Radford claimed a win at number five singles when Dominic Soeur rallied past Richard Dutton 3-6, 7-5, 10-8.
In doubles, Malasitt and Dutton (11-3) overcame Oosthuizen and Mengisteab 9-7 at number one, Lefevre and Houlst (13-1) handled Arhammar and Soeur 8-2 at two and Roberson and Nick Belutty (6-5) cruised past Lhamidi and Harvey 8-1 at three.
The Phoenix men's and women's tennis teams are both in action Saturday with 1 p.m. non-league matches at North Carolina A&T.
